Are you tired of seeing black triangles between your teeth when you look in the mirror? Then cosmetic dentistry can help rid you of them. The presence of black triangles between your front teeth can leave you feeling reluctant to smile freely. This can affect your confidence and wellbeing. Fortunately, several cosmetic dentistry treatments can remove black triangles from your smile.
1. Composite Bonding Seals Black Triangles
Composite or dental bonding is much the same as a white filling. But a well-trained and experienced cosmetic dentist can use composite bonding to help with cosmetic problems like stains, chips, receding gums and black triangles. However, since there is limited space to work with, sealing black triangles is a difficult task. That's why it's important that you ask for before and after pictures.
To correct a black triangle with composite bonding, a dentist will apply the composite resin to the edges of the teeth on either side of the triangle. This closes the space between the teeth. However, if your teeth are already large, using composite bonding may make them appear big and bulky. And if there is too little space to work with, bonding might not be possible.
2. Porcelain Veneers Cover Black Triangles
If you want a longer-term approach, porcelain veneers are ideal. Porcelain veneers last at least a decade if you take good care of them. And if the black triangles between your teeth are especially pronounced due to gum disease or bone loss, then porcelain veneers can help. However, you should treat the gum disease first.
The major downside to porcelain veneers is that they are a lot more expensive than composite bonding. They also require the removal of some of your tooth enamel.
3. Invisalign Closes Black Triangles
The most permanent option at your disposal is orthodontic treatment. Invisalign is both functional and cosmetic. So, while you undergo treatment, the invisible retainers of Invisalign will have no negative effects on your smile. If your black triangles are caused by the shape of your teeth then, or by gaps, Invisalign is a good way to remove the problem permanently and discreetly.
However, if you choose to go with Invisalign, be aware that you will likely need to wear a retainer after your treatment to ensure that your teeth don't move back to their former positions.
